We Are MOVING To The BIG D!!
DALLAS!!!! TEXAS!!!!Yeah it's still a mind numbingly crazy thought for me too! I mean it's like a joke, really. I am a GEORGIA Girl, through and through, what do I know about Texas!?
Let's see my 'Texas knowledge' consists of:
- "Everything's Bigger In Texas"
- "The Stars At Night Are Big And Bright"
- "Don't Mess With Texas"
- 10 Gallon & Stetson both refer to cowboy hats
- Texas is the Lone Star State
- "God Blessed Texas"
OK I think I'm just quoting songs and sayings but, as sad as it may be that's about the extent of my Texas knowledge.
Back Story
So I know you are trying to fit these pieces together so here's how we ended up facing a cross country move in WARP SPEED!!
Dave had a company in Texas contact him about a job, he did phone & Skype interviews which lead to him flying out for an interview in March at some point although the exact time frame escapes me at this time. They loved him, it seemed like a good fit, however they didn't actually have a job for Dave at the time - it's like grocery shopping you head to the store looking for avocados for guacamole and you pass a display with heavenly smelling pineapple and think oh man that looks good. . . . but then you remember guacamole is much better when made with avocados so you have to refocus your trip back to what you need. SO we thought that was it, our chances of moving to Texas were gone & we were going to start prioritizing our projects for the house.
Then sort of out of the blue, a second Texas firm that had Dave's resume on file called him and the process started all over again. They had a few phone call interviews and they made travel plans for Dave to fly out on a Friday so that he could do the interview and then spend some time with his Mom over Mother's Day weekend.
The Timing Is EVERYTHING
SO Dave is all set to fly out on the early morning of Friday May 11th. It was set up that he had to be on one of the first flights out so that he could have an on arrival airport meeting with one of the northeast partners who was flying out of Dallas and then he would head on to the office to do more interviewing and then off to his Mom's for dinner & sleep then fly home Saturday evening. Sounds like a great plan right? Well as luck would have it, life happens! And in this case 'life' was Dave arriving at the gate with twelve minutes to spare before scheduled take off. . .. . but he was flying American whose policy just happens to be to close boarding fifteen minutes prior to departure time no matter what, so there he stands watching the plane he was supposed to be on sit at the gate for twelve excruciating minutes then taxi off and fly to Dallas without him. For all intents and purposes he thought that any chances of actually getting the job were also flying out on the 7:20 flight to Dallas. He called and emailed his contacts for the interview, then boarded the 8:20 flight and thought "well at least I'll get to see my Mom and the family for dinner".
He arrived in Dallas and turned on his phone to discover that the partner he was meeting had been delayed as well so they still got to have their paths cross while both still in the airport. Then Dave went in to the office and got to meet the staff but unfortunately Bob, the Dallas partner, had a meeting and couldn't be there so he invited Dave out to his Country Club Saturday for a late lunch before he flew home. Dave said the meetings all went, I mean I guess you already guessed since we're moving, but....
No Time Like The Present To Change Your Future!
So before he left Dallas they told Dave they would be contacting him on Monday with an offer, apparently when you have looked to fill a position for over three years and you find your missing piece you don't want to chance losing it. . . . SO at some point on Monday just after lunch the call to Dave was made and then in turn he called me and it was pretty much one of those heart pounding, shallow breathing "Oh MY GOSH, everything is about to NEVER be the same" kind of calls! As you guessed, he accepted the job and although I was terrified about changing everything I was very excited for him to get such a great offer with such a wonderful company, there had been some unfortunate changes at his current office and it just wasn't fair to him to work so hard and drive so damn far to hate every minute of it. So in under four (yes 4) days we went from living out our lives in Georgia to looking into moving options and rental homes in Dallas!!! Yowza!
This 'developing' situation only has the potential to be epic - good or bad, I'm not sure yet, but EPIC is unavoidable at this point! Ha! Stay Tuned. . . . ..
